Google's Gemini API Developer Competition, taking place from May 14th to August 12th of 2024  is a thrilling opportunity for developers worldwide to showcase their innovative applications powered by the cutting-edge Gemini language model.

This AI development competition encourages participants to push the boundaries of what's possible with Artificial Intelligence, focusing on solving real-world problems across various domains.

MemKeep and Dirox Values

Our competition entry, MemKeep, aims to address a critical need in healthcare by leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to assist those dealing with Alzheimer's and similar conditions.

‍

By providing a digital platform designed to assist with memory loss, MemKeep aims to enhance the quality of life for patients by aiding in tasks like recalling personal information, managing appointments, and completing daily routines, thereby promoting independence and reducing caregiver burden. This HealthTech innovation perfectly embodies our mission to harness technology to create meaningful impact.

Its goal also aligns seamlessly with our earlier project, Beacon - People Alerting System App, another internally developed app focused on enhancing daily living through smart technology. Beacon was instigated under the "Dirox Does Good" initiative in a collaborative effort with Mekong Plus and Alliance Anti-Traffic Vietnam to address pressing community issues. It serves as a platform for individuals to stay alert and informed about the dangers that other people are facing, contributing to the safety and management of local communities.

Users can initiate an alert through voice recognition or phone movement detection when experiencing distress, such as during an assault or domestic abuse, or when witnessing a similar situation. These alerts will be immediately transmitted to Angels, Guardians, and NGO members.

Together, Beacon and MemKeep represent Dirox’s commitment to innovative, user-centered solutions in the tech space.

How MemKeep Works

‍

MemKeep is an Android app that leverages Google's Gemini LLM to serve as a virtual assistant for Alzheimer's patients and people suffering from memory loss. The app is designed to help users recall crucial information, thereby enhancing their independence and quality of life.

With MemKeep, everything becomes much simpler:

Step 1: Build The Memory Bank: Fill Memkeep with the user’s personal information, life's highlights, important dates, and anything they want to remember.

‍

Step 2: Ask Questions: When they need to recall something, just ask our virtual assistant, Emma, for example simple queries like "Do I have children?" or "What are the names of my children?"

‍

Step 3: Get Answers Instantly: MemKeep will dig through their memories and give the user their answer in a flash!

Under the Hood: The Technology Behind MemKeep

‍

MemKeep is built using Kotlin for Android devices. The app’s backend, powered by Node.js, handles data storage and communication. Firebase SDK connects the app to Firebase services, including analytics, crash reporting, and cloud storage. Additionally, MemKeep utilises Vertex AI for machine learning capabilities, and Google Text-to-Speech API for voice interaction.

Overall, MemKeep combines these technologies to create a smart, efficient SilverTech (AgeTech) app for managing information.
