Mekong Plus Introduction [CSR]
Mekong Plus aims to eliminate poverty in south Vietnam and Cambodia. It has been operating for 26 years in the fields of education, employment, agriculture, infrastructure, and health and hygiene. In one year, around 1,000 villages are supported, and 3,700 school scholarships help make dreams come true. In 2021, the NGO won the Energy Globe Award.
With global change bringing a wave of challenges to the Mekong Delta and flooding many parts of Vietnam close to the Mekong River’s tributaries, this non-profit organization aims to save both the people and the environment. Agriculture suffers the greatest as the sea level rises 1 cm every year while the land sinks 3 cm a year due to over-pumping of groundwater. The impact is detrimental to Vietnam as it relies a lot on agriculture in the economy and global trade aspects. Mekong Plus has been creating innovative solutions to help farmers and families react faster to minimize damage. The organization and its volunteers also have initiatives that aim to rectify damage due to decades of unsustainable farming practices and plastic pollution.
The NGO has an interesting program that raises awareness of poverty issues around the Mekong Delta through a 2-3 day bike tour. Participants will get to emerge in the lush green of Southern Vietnam, taste the local food, discover the local life, and learn about the Mekong Plus project. Generous donations can be made to organizations through its donation page. Another way to bring change is by becoming a sponsor. It is possible to sponsor a child with a scholarship, sponsor a poverty relief project for microcredit, sponsor a construction project to create new loving homes, or donate to an open sponsorship that benefits all of the programs mentioned above.
To contribute to the Vietnamese economy and society and transform thousands of lives, Dirox is assisting Mekong Plus so that its mission can be achieved faster and easier every year. We pledge to give 1% of our revenue to help the organization create a bigger impact on poverty reduction in Vietnam.
